Antje Jackelén, archbishop of the Church of Sweden, met with ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton and churchwide organization staff on May 2 at the Lutheran Center in Chicago. The group discussed the churches’ common commitments to climate justice, anticipated agenda items for the Lutheran World Federation Council meeting in June, and reaffirmed the churches’ shared, ongoing engagement in the work of the World Council of Churches.

Prior to her election as archbishop, Jackelén served as bishop of Lund in Sweden and professor of systematic theology / religion and science at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, where she directed the Zygon Center for Religion and Science. She was visiting Chicago to give the annual Niebuhr Lecture at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill., and to speak at the Swedish American Museum in Chicago.
