Yehiel Curry was reelected May 30 to serve a six-year term as bishop of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the ELCA. The election took place during the synod assembly, May 30-31 at the Q Center in St. Charles, Ill.
The bishop was reelected on the third ballot, with 265 votes. Katie Hines-Shah, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hinsdale, Ill., received 50 votes.
Curry was elected bishop of the synod in 2019. He had previously served as pastor of Shekinah Chapel Lutheran Church in Riverdale, Ill. (2013-2019) and as mission developer of Shekinah (2007-2012).
