The ELCA’s evolving effort to serve God’s people has given us two tracks for people set apart—ordained—for lifelong service to God’s people: pastors, who are ministers of “Word and Sacrament,” and deacons, who are ministers of “Word and Service.” Together they work through the church to help people deepen their connection to God.
