Connecting with siblings in Christ and neighbors is more than finding friends. (Though that’s important!) The intentionality of building community and maintaining social connection is part of our Lutheran calling. Showing up for the people in our lives, hosting game nights, sharing a meal are all simple but necessary ways to live out God’s love.
“Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Prayer for the community
God of connection, thank you for the people who surround us. Help us to see each neighbor as a gift and to nurture relationships that reflect your love. Amen.
Prayer for community builders
Creator God, bless those who work to bring people together. Give them patience, creativity and courage to build spaces of belonging and grace. Amen.
Five simple ways to build community
If you attend a congregation regularly, get involved! Whether that’s helping with morning coffee, singing in the choir or joining a Bible study. If you don’t have a home congregation, join one!
Host a movie night complete with pajamas, popcorn and cozy blankets.
Commit to seeking out and attending two events happening in your congregation or synod in the next couple of weeks.
Pick up a hobby that requires social interaction! Pickleball, ballet lessons, pottery class, book club, anything!
Participate in community advocacy. Volunteer for local nonprofits, attend city council meetings, organize a clothing or food drive.

Scripture as an affirmation
Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received (1 Peter 4:8-10).
I am a steward of grace, using my gifts to strengthen and serve my community.
