Study guide for “What is your favorite hymn?”

Every time Lutherans sing “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” we are reminded anew that music is hardwired into our worship and devotion. After all, it was Martin Luther himself who composed that iconic Lutheran hymn—and many others—that still enrich our worship life today. Music stirs our souls and helps us open ourselves to the presence of God.

Robert C. Blezard

Robert C. Blezard is a retired ELCA pastor and editor of Living Lutheran's study guides. Previously he served as an assistant to the bishop of the Lower Susquehanna Synod and pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, Md. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Boston University School of Theology and has done further study at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (Pa.), now called United Lutheran Seminary.
